Mob City Car Interior

“Mob City” (TV 2013) A gritty 1947 period piece by director Frank Darabont, (“The Green Mile”, “The Shawshank Redemption”).
Stargate Studios was tasked with the visual effects and I was rewarded with some of the most challenging work I'd done to date. This sequence had our hero tailing a cab through Brentwood. The camera had to start on Jon Bernthal, go completely around his face, inside the car, and wind up looking over his shoulder as he followed the taxi. This shot was impossible to do practically but certainly doable as a visual effect. It just required a very detailed model that would pass extreme close up scrutiny.
In addition to the interior, the background road footage had to be painstakingly tracked in order to completely clear out any modern cars, road signs or trash cans and replace them with vintage counterparts. We did it. It worked. And we were nominated for an Emmy.
